CISM Certification Class for the December 2010 Exam

cism-logoThe CISM® certification program is developed specifically for experienced information security managers and those who have information security management responsibilities.

The management-focused CISM is a unique certification for individuals who design, build and manage enterprise information security programs. The CISM certification promotes international practices and individuals earning the CISM become part of an elite peer network, attaining a one-of-a-kind credential.

Although certification may not be mandatory for you at this time, a growing number of organizations are recommending that employees become certified. To help ensure success in the global marketplace, it is vital to select a certification program based on universally accepted technical practices. -- ISACA® International

To help you earn your designation, ISACA Silicon Valley offers classes twice a year.  Chapter members will have their fees refunded if they attend a minimum of 2/3 of the classes, or if they pass the exam (students will need to first pay the fees, and will be reimbursed if they qualify). To take advantage of this offer, you will need to provide your membership number on the first day of class.

How do I become ISACA certified?

  1. Make sure you have the experience to qualify (CISA®, CISM®, CGEIT ®, CRISC®)
  2. Register for the exam at ISACA International (CISA, CISM, CGEIT, CRISC – highly experienced CRISC candidates may apply for certification under the grandfathering program. The deadline to apply is March 31, 2011)
  3. Optional, but highly recommended:  get the right material to prepare for the exam (CISA, CISM, CGEIT, CRISC currently unavailable).  ISACA Silicon Valley particularly recommends that candidates buy the pertinent official Review Manual and the Practice Question Database from ISACA International’s Bookstore.
  4. Optional, but highly recommended:  attend one of ISACA Silicon Valley’s classes and utilize ISACA International’s Online Learning program.
  5. Apply for certification (CISA, CISM, CGEIT, CRISC) – just because you have passed the exam does not mean you are certified.
  6. Maintain your certification (CISA, CISM, CGEIT, CRISC).

How often are certification exams held?

The exam is held on the second Saturday of June and December every year.
