This year the Silicon Valley chapter has strengthened our academic relations with the San Jose State University chapter of ISACA.  The student chapter maintained an attendance of approximately 30 members throughout the school year, and primarily includes students in the accounting information systems program at SJSU.

We hosted two student research competitions for both the fall and spring semesters during the 09-10 academic year.  We provided the student chapter $1,500 each semester to be awarded as a scholarship for the winning teams.  The students competed in teams of 3-5 students and had an approximately 50% student chapter participation rate.  The fall competition was on cloud computing, and the spring competition was on IFRS and its impact on IT.

In the upcoming academic year, the SJSU chapter asked for additional support beyond sponsorship in the research competition, and I’m open to getting any ideas for events.  One idea brought up by the student chapter was a formal dinner class where the students could learn proper etiquette.  Additionally we are looking to connect with additional academic institutions to provide seminars or open a chapter.  To proceed with this we need some faculty contacts at the universities and colleges to work with.  If you have any ideas, want to volunteer to assist in any of the events, or know of any faculty contacts please contact the Academic Director via the contact form on the www.isaca-sv.org website.
