The CHIP, June 2005
The Official Newsletter of the Silicon Valley Chapter --
Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA)
Editor: Lawrence R. Halme, CISM, CISA, CISSP – ISSMP / ISSAP, NSA-IAM
One week left before the June 6-7 Spring Conference! There is still time to lock in a
reduced rate if you online-register in the hours remaining of May! That means now,
today, Tuesday, May 31!!
Your Board has been working something crazy to pull this all together. It promises to be
a humdinger of an event. In a nutshell the conference will include two keynote talks;
twelve sessions in two tracks; networking galore; nifty door prizes; breakfast, lunch, and
evening munchies/drinks; special events such as CISA exam candidate coaching and a
Recruiting event; and get a free copy of Adobe Acrobat 7 Professional! Oh, and there’s
the 14 CPEs at a notably low price point. I want to note the support that the event has
received from our Platinum Sponsors (Adobe, Oracle, and Protiviti), and from our Gold
Sponsors (DeWinter Associates, HP, Kforce, and Lander International). The Conference
Brochure and online-registration may be found at:
http://www.isaca-sv.org/Conference_June_2005.html
I also want to draw attention to the fact that the 2005 Annual General Meeting (AGM) for
the Chapter will also take place at the Conference from 4:30 to 5:30 on June 6. ISACASV
members are encouraged to attend this no-cost event to vote (and hopefully
volunteer) for next year’s Board even if you can’t make the all-day Conference on
Monday. Come show your support for the Best Large Chapter Worldwide’s Board
nominees and the exciting Conference buzz. Please reply to Desmond if you intend to
attend only the AGM.

CISA and CISM Certification:
At our Spring Conference, ISACA-SV will be distributing the latest guidance for CISM
and CISA certification and ISACA enrollment. Those who have been considering the
benefits of becoming an ISACA member or gaining one or both of ISACA’s
Certifications, please ensure you take the opportunity to talk with Board members and
pick up this literature! Our chapter has been growing and taking on new challenges and
your participation as a new ISACA member or fellow certification holder is actively
sought!
Attending the 5:30 Birds of a Feather session on June 6 will provide the opportunity to
ask questions about the exams and how best to prepare. Remember that there is a new,
second exam date starting this year. Get prepared for the CISA or CISM exam offered
December 2005, if you are not signed up for the June exams.
Commemorative CISA and CISM Pins:
Our AGM / Spring Conference will also give us the opportunity to personally distribute
commemorative CISA/CISM pins to those who achieved these certifications between
January 1, 2003, and November 30, 2004. If you have not yet received yours, be sure to
attend to pick up your bling bling CISM and/or CISA Certification Pins!
ISACA Job Seeking Support:
ISACA International has implemented a new Career Centre facility at http://www.isaca.org/jobs.html.
Information systems audit, control, security, and assurance professional job seekers can
look for jobs online. Do you want employers to seek you out? Act now to be among the
first to post your résumé to ISACA's members-only database, which is actively reviewed
by employers each day. Members have the added advantage of being able to receive email
notification when new jobs are posted. The resume posting and e-mail notification
are services reserved exclusively for ISACA members. Those seeking to hire, the Career
Centre highlights the CISA and CISM designations, providing a special opportunity for
those interested in hiring CISA or CISM holders.
And don’t forget our Chapter’s career support! We invite you to visit the Chapter’s
website to view local employment opportunities at http://www.isaca-sv.org/employment.html.
We are accepting job descriptions for open positions you wish to post on our web site.
See the web site for job postings and contact information.
